A detail from the Tiruvalluvar statue, a large stone statue of the Tamil saint sculpted sculpted in 2000 and which has a height of about 44 m. When December 2004 tsunami hit Kanyakumari, the water reached the top of the Tiruvalluvar statue. The tsunami caused a total of 808 deaths in the Kanyakumari district.
